Glass systems Times (Internal Quarterly Newsletter)  – Tell us more about yourself Stephen. What attracted you to Glass Systems?

Steve – I had gained a great deal of experience and knowledge in production whilst working in my previous role and when the opportunity to work at Glass Systems arose I felt it was the right time for me to move on bring my experience to Glass Systems at  Peterborough to further develop and help the site with its efficiencies.

  – What changes have you seen in the glass industry in recent years?

Steve – Over the last 22 years the industry has changed massively from the good old days of Clear to K units! We now have a multitude of coatings on offer for homeowners and architects. It has made manufacturing units a lot more complicated, but the aesthetics and the performance of the glass are worth the effort.

 – What challenges are facing you in 2023 at  your site in Peterborough?

Steve – 2023 has been a tricky year so far with lots of pressures from both within the industry, with competitors pushing for work and customers demanding ever higher quality standards. This coupled with external challenges in the economy, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ever-increasing inflation in the UK has brought its opportunities. But as with all our UK sites we meet these challenges head on, and I am lucky to have a great team around me that I can trust to make the right decisions when the going ‘gets tough’!

 – What actions do you take to ensure that we are doing our best to protect the environment and sustainability at your site?

Steve – Glass Systems as a company is committed to reducing CO2 emissions and introducing sustainable processes where possible. At Peterborough myself and my team and committed to helping the company achieve these goals.

 – What about life outside Glass Systems?

Steve – Outside of work it is all about my family and spending quality time with them. With three grown up kids and two grandchildren there is always someone in need of a helping hand, or some babysitting to do. It’s a full-time job outside of work but I enjoy it.
